Convert image formats: what an image converter does
An image converter changes a picture from one file format to another, for example PNG to JPG, JPG to WebP, or WebP back to JPG so an older app can open it. This convert image tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files and saves them as JPG, PNG or WebP, keeping the same width and height.
Converting doesn’t change what the picture shows, but it does change how it is stored: whether some detail is traded for a smaller file, whether it can have transparent areas, and how widely it is supported. For JPG and WebP you can set the quality (90% by default); PNG is lossless, so the quality slider disappears when you select it. The conversion happens entirely in your browser.

A simple rule: photos go to JPG or WebP, while flat graphics and anything with text go to PNG.
Worked examples
A WebP download that won’t open
Images saved from websites are often WebP, and some older photo editors or government and college upload portals won’t accept them. Drop the .webp file in, choose JPG at 90% and click Convert images. You get an ordinary .jpg with exactly the same pixel dimensions.
A transparent logo for a form
You have logo.png with a transparent background, but a form only takes JPG. After conversion the transparent areas are filled with white, so the logo sits on a white rectangle. That looks fine on a white page but wrong on a colored slide; in that case keep the PNG or choose WebP.
A screenshot that is too big to share
Screenshots are usually saved as PNG. If yours is mostly a photo or video frame, converting to JPG or WebP at 80–90% typically makes it much smaller. If it is mostly text, like a spreadsheet or a chat, PNG usually stays crisper, so compare both versions and keep the one that reads better.
Things to know before you convert
- JPG to PNG won’t restore detail. It stores the existing pixels losslessly, and the file usually gets bigger.
- Animated GIFs become still images. Only a single frame is kept.
- Metadata is not carried over. Because the image is redrawn before saving, EXIF details such as camera model and GPS location are left out of the new file.
- WebP output depends on your browser. Chrome, Edge and Firefox can create WebP files. If a WebP result looks unexpectedly large, try one of those browsers or choose JPG.
- Batch conversion is supported. Add as many files as you like; more than one result downloads as a ZIP.

Can I convert HEIC iPhone photos to JPG here?
HEIC is not one of the supported input formats. On an iPhone you can make the camera save JPG from now on by going to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choosing Most Compatible. Photos shared by email or to many apps are also often converted to JPG automatically.
Is converting PNG to JPG lossless?
No. JPG always uses lossy compression. At 90% quality the difference is usually invisible in photos, but you may notice faint smudging around sharp text or thin lines.
Is WebP better than JPG?
For websites, WebP usually gives a smaller file at similar visual quality and supports transparency. For sending to other people, printing or using in older software, JPG is still the safer choice because almost everything opens it.
Will converting change my image’s dimensions?
No. The image converter keeps the original width and height. To change the size, use Resize Image before or after converting.
