How is age calculated in years, months and days?
We subtract the birth year from the end year, then adjust for whether the birthday month and day have passed. Leftover days are counted using the real length of the previous month.
What if I was born on 29 February?
In non-leap years the birthday countdown uses 1 March. Your age in years, months and days is still exact.
Can I calculate age on a future date?
Yes. Change the second date to any future day — useful for school admission, exam, visa or retirement age limits.
What is an age calculator?
An age calculator works out exactly how old someone is on a given date, from their date of birth. Instead of a single rounded number, it gives the full answer in years, months and days, which is what many application forms, admission rules and eligibility checks actually ask for.
Counting age by hand gets messy because months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days and leap years add an extra day every four years or so. This tool does the calendar arithmetic in your browser, so you can check your own age, a child’s age for school admission, or a parent’s age on a pension date without counting on your fingers.
Worked examples: age by date of birth
Example 1: a simple case
Say you were born on 15 August 1998 and want your age on 29 September 2026.
- Years: 2026 − 1998 = 28, and 15 August has already passed in 2026, so 28 full years.
- Months: from 15 August to 15 September 2026 is 1 full month.
- Days: from 15 September to 29 September is 14 days.
- Result: 28 years, 1 month and 14 days.
Example 2: when the days need borrowing
Born 25 March 2001, age on 10 June 2026. Years: 25. Months: June − March = 3, but the 10th comes before the 25th, so one month is borrowed, leaving 2 months. That borrowed month is May, which has 31 days, so the days are 10 − 25 + 31 = 16. The answer is 25 years, 2 months and 16 days.
This “borrow from the previous month” rule is the standard way to state age in years, months and days, and it is why two people born a few days apart can show a different number of months on the same date.

Total days count every calendar day between the two dates, including leap days in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Tips for getting the right answer
- Check the “as on” date. Exam and job notices in India often ask for age “as on” a fixed cut-off date, such as 1 January or 1 August of the year. Enter that date in the second box, not today’s date.
- Use the date on your official documents. If your birth certificate and school records differ, forms usually go by the one they specify.
- Upper and lower limits matter. For “between 21 and 30 years” rules, check your age on the cut-off date and read the notice to see whether the limits are inclusive.
- Planning ahead? Enter a future date to see how old a child will be when school admissions open, or when you reach a retirement age.
- Time zones do not change the result. The calculator works with calendar dates only, not the time of birth.

How old am I if I was born in 2000?
It depends on whether your birthday has passed this year. In 2026 you are 26 if your birthday has already come, and 25 if it has not. Enter your full date of birth above for the exact figure in years, months and days.
Does the age calculator count the day of birth?
No. Age is counted from the day of birth to the chosen date, so on your birthday you complete another full year and the day count starts again at zero. This matches how age is usually stated on forms.
Why does my age in months look different from years × 12?
Total months equals full years × 12 plus the extra full months. Leftover days are not counted as a month until a full month has passed, so someone aged 28 years, 1 month and 14 days has 337 total months.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. The dates you type are not uploaded or saved, and the numbers disappear when you close the page.
